In a collaborative effort between the District Malir DHO office and the Provincial EPI office, a cricket match was organized at the newly developed Star Cricket Ground in UC-2 Muslimabad, Landhi town. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about Routine Immunization EPI and Polio, with a particular focus on the high-risk UC in terms of polio and routine immunization coverage.
The matches featured exciting contests between the district polio and EPI teams, as well as between the Provincial EPI and polio teams. In the first round, the district EPI team emerged victorious, while the provincial EPI triumphed over the provincial polio team. The final showdown took place between District Malir EPI and the Provincial EPI team, with the district EPI team securing the victory with a score of 80.
"We believe in engaging communities and creating a friendly environment by conducting healthy programs. It is our hope that this initiative contributes to a healthier Pakistan where all children can play cricket without the fear of disease," said Dr. Muhammad Naeem, Project Director EPI.
Dr. Sohail Shaikh, Additional Project Director EPI, expressed optimism about building a healthier nation and emphasized the importance of eradicating polio, making it a top priority alongside routine immunization.
Dr. Ahmed Ali Shaikh, Technical Focal Person EOC Sindh, reiterated the commitment to polio eradication, emphasizing the significance of routine immunization in achieving this goal.
"Communities are our main stakeholders, and we cannot succeed without community engagement. I am hopeful that with the support of district health teams, we can eradicate polio and strengthen routine immunization," stated Dr. Capt (Rtd) Muhammad Saeed Laghari, Deputy Commissioner District Malir.
Dr. Imdad Ali, DHO Malir, highlighted the importance of community outreach and expressed satisfaction that the cricket match served as a healthy activity to reach the local community and create awareness.
The event garnered participation and enjoyment from various stakeholders, including DHOs from South, Korangi, Central, WHO, UNICEF, IRD, Impetus, AKU, Dr. Essa Lab partners, local influencers, community leaders, UC chairman and Nazim, and cricket enthusiasts from across Karachi. The cricket match, held from 10 am to 3 pm, proved to be a successful and engaging platform to promote health awareness and community involvement.
The distribution of trophies, certificates, and awards added a festive spirit to the event, celebrating the collaborative efforts towards a healthier and polio-free community.

ڈسٹرکٹ ملیر ڈی ایچ او آفس اور صوبائی ای پی آئی آفس کے اشتراک سے ایک کرکٹ میچ کا انعقاد لانڈھی ٹاؤن یو سی ٹو مسلم آباد میں نئے تیار کردہ اسٹار کرکٹ گراؤنڈ میں کیا گیا۔ اس اقدام کا مقصد پولیو اور معمول کے حفاظتی ٹیکوں پر خصوصی توجہ کے ساتھ، روٹین امیونائزیشن اور پولیو کے بارے میں بیداری پیدا کرنا تھا۔
ان میچوں میں ضلعی پولیو اور ای پی آئی ٹیموں کے ساتھ ساتھ صوبائی ای پی آئی اور پولیو ٹیموں کے درمیان دلچسپ مقابلے ہوئے۔ پہلے راؤنڈ میں ضلعی ای پی آئی ٹیم کامیاب ہوئی جبکہ صوبائی ای پی آئی نے صوبائی پولیو ٹیم پر فتح حاصل کی۔ فائنل مقابلہ ڈسٹرکٹ ملیر ای پی آئی اور صوبائی ای پی آئی ٹیم کے درمیان ہوا جس میں ضلع ای پی آئی کی ٹیم نے 80 کے سکور سے فتح حاصل کی۔
ای پی آئی کے پراجیکٹ ڈائریکٹر ڈاکٹر محمد نعیم نے کہا، "ہم کمیونٹیز کو شامل کرنے اور صحتمند پروگراموں کے ذریعے ایک دوستانہ ماحول پیدا کرنے پر یقین رکھتے ہیں۔ یہ ہماری امید ہے کہ یہ اقدام ایک صحتمند پاکستان میں حصہ ڈالے گا جہاں تمام بچے بیماری کے خوف کے بغیر کرکٹ کھیل سکیں۔"
ای پی آئی کے ایڈیشنل پراجیکٹ ڈائریکٹر ڈاکٹر سہیل شیخ نے ایک صحتمند قوم کی تعمیر کے بارے میں امید کا اظہار کیا اور پولیو کے خاتمے کی اہمیت پر زور دیا اور اسے معمول کے حفاظتی ٹیکوں کے ساتھ ساتھ اولین ترجیح قرار دیا۔
ڈاکٹر احمد علی شیخ، ٹیکنیکل فوکل پرسن ای او سی سندھ نے پولیو کے خاتمے کے عزم کا اعادہ کیا، اس مقصد کے حصول کے لیے معمول کے حفاظتی ٹیکوں کی اہمیت پر زور دیا۔
ڈپٹی کمشنر ڈسٹرکٹ ملیر ڈاکٹر کیپٹن (ر) محمد سعید لغاری نے کہا، "کمیونٹیز ہمارے اہم اسٹیک ہولڈرز ہیں، اور ہم کمیونٹی کی شمولیت کے بغیر کامیاب نہیں ہو سکتے۔ مجھے امید ہے کہ ضلعی صحت کی ٹیموں کے تعاون سے، ہم پولیو کا خاتمہ کر سکتے ہیں اور معمول کے حفاظتی ٹیکوں کو مضبوط کر سکتے ہیں۔"
ڈاکٹر امداد علی، ڈی ایچ او ملیر نے کمیونٹی آؤٹریچ کی اہمیت پر روشنی ڈالی اور اس بات پر اطمینان کا اظہار کیا کہ کرکٹ میچ نے مقامی کمیونٹی تک پہنچنے اور بیداری پیدا کرنے کے لیے ایک صحتمند سرگرمی کے طور پر کام کیا۔
اس تقریب میں مختلف اسٹیک ہولڈرز کی شرکت اور لطف اٹھایا گیا، جن میں جنوبی، کورنگی، سینٹرل کے ڈی ایچ اوز، ڈبلیو ایچ او، یونیسیف، آئی آر ڈی، امپیٹس، اے کے یو، ڈاکٹر عیسیٰ لیب پارٹنرز، مقامی اثر و رسوخ رکھنے والے افراد، کمیونٹی لیڈرز، یو سی چیئرمین اور ناظمین، اور کراچی بھر کے کرکٹ کے شائقین شامل تھے۔ صبح 10 بجے سے سہ پہر 3 بجے تک منعقد ہونے والا کرکٹ میچ صحت سے متعلق آگاہی اور کمیونٹی کی شمولیت کو فروغ دینے کے لیے ایک کامیاب اور پرکشش پلیٹ فارم ثابت ہوا۔
ای پی آئی اور پولیو فیلڈ ورک میں مثبت کردار ادا کرنے والی فاتح ٹیم اور کمیونٹی لیڈرز میں ٹرافیز، اسناد اور ایوارڈ تقسیم کیے گئے۔
